He went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine degree from Tufts University Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, and was awarded the Phi Beta Epsilon Award for Skill, Diligence, and Excellence as determined by the Department of Anatomy, and graduated in the top 20% of his class. He then completed his one year surgical internship and four year orthopedic residency program at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
During his time in Louisiana, Dr. Solman received the William F. Sherman award for the most outstanding junior orthopedic resident, and the Irene C. He also was honored with nominations for intern of the year in 1997, and resident of the year in 2001 as voted on by the faculty and students of the Tulane University Medical School. Following his orthopedic training, Dr. Solman went on to Nashville, Tennessee, where he completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic Surgery. During this one year fellowship, Dr. Solman had extensive training in the treatment of sports related injuries, serving as the team physician for the Tennessee State University athletic department, and an assistant team physician for the Nashville Predators NHL hockey team. He also participated in the care of athletes from the Tennessee Titans NFL football team, Nashville Kats (professional AFL arena football team), Nashville Sounds (AAA Baseball team for the Pittsburgh Pirates), and elite runners from the Music City Marathon in April 2002. Dr. Solman was also privileged to attend the NFL National Invitational Combine Physicals as a member of the Tennessee Titans medical staff, where the top collegiate football players undergo rigorous evaluations by the NFL medical staff and coaches prior to the NFL draft. He also was extensively involved in high school athletics in the Nashville area, especially high school football.
Following his training, Dr. Solman moved to St. Louis to start his orthopedic career. He has served as the team physician for many sports teams since coming to town, including teams from Parkway North and CBC high schools, Missouri River Otters Hockey Club, River City Rascals Baseball Club, St. Louis SLAM professional women’s football, and Oakville High School Hockey Club. He currently serves as the team orthopedic surgeon for the Lindbergh High School Hockey Club.
As part of his commitment to continuing education, Dr. Solman regularly undergoes advanced training in shoulder surgery with some of the nation’s most highly regarded shoulder surgeons. Under the mentorship of Dr. Gary Gartsman, Dr. Brad Edwards and Dr. Vivek Agrawal, Dr. Corey Solman has become one of just a handful of surgeons in the United States with expertise performing Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement.
